The UNESCO Chair in Urban Landscape at the University of Montreal (CUPUM) has been developing partnerships with cities and metropolises in different regions of the world for some 15 years within the framework of the Agenda 2030 of the United Nations sustainable development program. This approach to territorial enhancement and development is expressed in particular through the WAT_UNESCO (Workshop_Ateliers terrain), annual meetings for reflection on the future of cities.

The WAT_UNESCO Évry 2017 brought together, at the initiative of the University of Évry-Val-d'Essone and in partnership with the City of Évry, professors and students from four university institutions (Canada, France, Italy, Tunisia). The aim was to implement an interdisciplinary and intercultural reflection and to carry out collective work in the face of an urban situation which, while not unique in the french or in the international urban landscape, nonetheless questions the place and the dream of a university pole within the public space. In the case of Évry, the research program made it possible to identify the identity assets of the university city, the desirable springs of its manifestation in the public debate, the possible permeability of flows, the possible weaving of links between the university and the natural spaces of the city. The exemplary nature of the responses obtained serves as a model to bring about a real change in our ways of sharing the city.
