2010 – Expositions internationales des travaux de la CUPEUM

22 March — 31 October 2010

  • Description

In spring 2012, CUPEUM presented student projects developed within its WAT_UNESCO at the "Better City, Better Life" Expo 2010 in Shanghai (China), at the UNESCO pavilion. The video exhibition entitled "Cross sight: Cities Building Their Landscapes" presented CUPUM’s international teachings on urban development with the local governments of Morocco (Marrakech), Tunisia (Mahdia), Lebanon (Saïda), China (Shanghai-Jinze), the Republic of Korea (Ganghwa), and Japan (Kobe).

On another continent, CUPUM presented student projects conducted within the framework of its WAT_UNESCO at UN-HABITAT’s 5th World Urban Forum (WUF5) held from March 22 to 26, 2010. Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) hosted the WUF5 under the theme "The Right to the City - Bridging the Urban Divide”. The exhibition was selected to represent UNESCO as part of the Urban Forum of the United Nations. It compiled the results of 6 years of reflection (WAT_UNESCO) conducted in 6 cities of the Maghreb, the Middle East, and Asia. Held in close collaboration with local governments in selected cities, the UNESCO Chair’s annual WAT_UNESCO offers viable design solutions to meet the challenges of urban development in the 21st century.

Under the WUF5, Philippe Poullaouec-Gonidec and Lyndsay Daudier represented the Chair. Their presence during the event helped spread knowledge of the Chair’s work via a conference conducted during the session "How to prepare education for mutating urban environment." Throughout the forum, they answered questions from visitors on projects developed within the annual WATs. The event was also an opportunity to form relationships and develop new collaborations.

These exhibitions are carried out in partnership with UNESCO’s MOST Programme, the International Relations Department at the University of Montreal, Quebec’s Ministère des Relations internationales, de la Francophonie et du Commerce extérieurand the Canadian Commission for UNESCO.
