During UN-HABITAT’s 5th World Urban Forum (WUF5) held from March 22 to 26, 2010, CUPUM presented student projects conducted during WAT_UNESCO events. Hosted in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the WUF5 event was held under the theme "The Right to the City - Bridging the Urban Divide.” The exhibition was selected to represent UNESCO as part of the Urban Forum of the United Nations. It compiled results from 6 years of reflection (Workshop_atelier/terrain - WAT) conducted in 6 cities throughout the Maghreb, the Middle East, and Asia. Held in close collaboration with local governments in selected cities, the UNESCO Chair’s annual WATs offer viable design solutions to meet the challenges of urban development in the 21st century.
Under the WUF5, the UNESCO Chair was represented by Philippe Poullaouec-Gonidec and Lyndsay Daudier. They communicated the Chair’s work via a conference conducted during the session "How to prepare education for mutating urban environment." Throughout the forum, they answered questions from visitors on projects developed within the annual WATs. The event was also an opportunity to form relationships and develop new collaborations.
The exhibition was carried out in partnership with UNESCO’s MOST Programme, the International Relations Department at the University of Montreal, Quebec’s Ministère des Relations internationales, de la Francophonie et du Commerce extérieur and the Canadian Commission for UNESCO.
