Created in 2003, CUPEUM is the result of an agreement between the University of Montreal and UNESCO, which contributes to its operation. At UNESCO, the intergovernmental scientific programmes IHP, MAB and more specifically MOST are partners of the Chair. CUPEUM is also affiliated with the Permanent Delegation of Canada to UNESCO and the Canadian Commission for UNESCO in Ottawa. It also benefits from the support of the University of Montreal, in particular through the Vice-Rectorate of International Relations, Francophonie and Institutional Partnerships, Office of Research, Development and Promotion, Faculty of Environmental Design and Chair in Landscape and Environmental Design (CPEUM) of the institution.
On the scientific level, CUPEUM has partnered with over 20 academic institutions from 11 different countries, North and South. This scientific cooperation network is open and connected to activities under the direction of CUPEUM.
