CUPUM supports the designation of Anticosti to UNESCO World Heritage List

For more than 30 years, UNESCO has been identifying sites that, by their exceptional value, are likely to be listed as World Heritage. In response to the appeal made by the Federal Minister of the Environment, Catherine McKenna, the municipality of Île-d’Anticosti will submit the island’s application for designation as World Heritage by the UNESCO.

The UNESCO Chair in Urban Landscape at the University of Montreal (CUPUM) supports the candidacy of Anticosti Island, regarding this site as a unique cultural landscape in the world, deserving its place alongside great milestones of our past.

Philippe Poullaouec-Gonidec and Gérald Domon co-signed an opinion letter in Le Devoir and granted several interviews in support of this commitment.
